About the Epidemic

American children are being diagnosed with chronic illnesses at a breathtaking rate.  The following are just a few of the troubling statistics:

  • 1 in 91 children has autism (1 in 57 boys)
  • 1 in 10 children has ADHD
  • 1 in 8 children has asthma
  • 1 in 80 children has celiac disease
  • 1 in 5 children has allergic eczema
  • 1 in 12 children under 4 years has “true” food allergies–many more have food sensitivities or intolerance that cause medical problems
  • 1 in 30 children has pediatric depression
  • 1 in 2 to 3 children has hayfever and/or environmental allergies

And there are  many other disorders on the rise in children including:

  • ulcerative colitis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • sensory processing disorder/sensory integration disorder
  • eosinophilic esophagitis
  • diabetes
  • thyroid conditions
  • acid reflux

Although each child’s condition is unique, many of these illnesses stem from the same set of environmental causes–causes that can and should be prevented.
